Robert Nielsen has been painting for the last 15 years out of his home studio in Barrington, Illinois. He brings a strong sense of design to his studies of landscape and portrait paintings. He has studied with several area artists and art centers in both oils and acrylics. He prefers oils as he feels that no other medium offers the richness of color and subtle blending of pigments. His portraits not only capture the likeness but express a mood and spirit of his subjects.
Robert has painted plein air in Tuscany, Ireland, the Rockies and the Southwest. He has also studied with Irby Brown in Santa Fe, NM, Bob Rohm in Ghost Ranch, NM and Dan Gerhartz. “Every element plays a part in the overall presentation. I am constantly drawn to the Impressionists in their ability to capture the mood of the subject rather than photo realism”.
