Julie Smith has been a resident of Barrington, IL for the past 25 years. While balancing an accounting career and raising two children, she started pursuing her life long interest in art. For a little over a decade her interest was in black and white film photography, printing in the Barrington High School photo lab under the direction of Jeffrey Dionesotes. She was honored to have photography on display at the Barrington Area Arts Council Gallery at the Barrington Area Library – “Scene though the Lens,” – September-October 2005, and photography in the Juried Exhibition for Lake County Artists, College of Lake County – 2003 and 2005.
In the last two years she has turned her attention to painting, focusing on learning oil painting under the direction of Jackie Smith. Julie loves to learn and explore different media and has taken several oil painting workshops at Palette and Chisel, and a lithography workshop at Spudnik Press studios. She also loves to expressively reinterpret her photographic images in water color or oil.
She would like to especially thank her loving and encouraging husband, Tim, for letting her turn a corner of their kitchen into her painting studio.
