NEW OPEN STUDIO OPPORTUNITY:
BCAC is partnering with the Barrington Council On Aging (BCOA) to produce a celebratory event of ‘Life on the back nine’. The objective is to highlight the interesting lives and rich experiences of those folks of an ‘uncertain age’.
BCOA representative, Joyce Palmquist, will be recruiting seniors to share their stories and sit for portraits. The event will culminate in an exhibit during May (Senior Month) of next year, when portraits will be shared with the public in an official Opening at the BCAC IHM gallery.
The Portrait sittings will be held twice a month at the Gallery – tentatively scheduled for the last Thursday (AM sessions) and last Sunday (PM sessions) of the month. Space is limited so you’ll be asked to sign up in advance. Artists will need to bring their own choice of materials, including an easel. These events will be open to all artists, members and non-members. The Fee for artists to participate is $15 per session.

Our beloved member, Tracy Albert, long time BCAC member, leader and friend, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 12, 2017. The family has announced that services will be held Friday, August 18, with visitation starting at 4:00pm, followed by a funeral service at 7:00pm.
BCAC members will come together soon to decide how it is that we might best honor Tracy’s memory in our organization.
Our friend and colleague, Dixie Rogus, passed away from cancer last year. Before her passing, Dixie named BCAC as one of the recipients to which she’d like memorial donations in her honor to be directed. Thanks to her thoughtful wishes and the generosity of the many people who cared about her, $400 was given to BCAC to further our mission.
Our members voted to use these funds toward supporting young artists. This year BCAC will provide two separate awards of $100 each to deserving young artists, repeating the awards the following year. It is the members’ intent to work toward raising funds annually to support art for youth in Dixie’s honor.
